Life is all about relationships. Driving home from Akron today, it kind of dawned on me that I wanted to post about this, I correct myself, it felt right that I should post this.
Let me repeat, life is all about relationships. Your relationship with God, your friends, your co-workers, lovers, family, even your neighbors and fellow citizens. A life can be saved or destroyed by the interactions within these relationships. Every day, people are changing. Their environments are being altered, people moving around the world, jobs being offered and being taken away. It is our relationships with others that keep us sane and ground us to know that we still have a future.
A lot in a person's life can be changed by just one intervention or conversation with another. Your complete outlook can change. It can be with a complete stranger or a life-long best friend. A friend and co-worker once told me, "It's not who you are, it's who you know" and that has been proven more true than I could possibly have imagined. People can make our lives a heaven or hell, but without any relationships, life is a dark existence that I dare not contemplate.
I wouldn't give up my relationships with anyone for anything. Even those lost are still forever with us as they leave footprints on our lives and our hearts. We are in the time of our lives, with nothing to guide us back except our own upbringings and our relationships. It's not who you are, it's who you know and who you'll meet. |
